In a world full of AI chatbots and different GPTs, it is crucial to work with it, not for it. No one trusts marketing that is built on AI images and full of impersonal messages. Use AI as a tool, not a crutch. AI works best when it supports your ideas, not when it replaces them.
You’ve built something real; here’s how you keep it
The businesses getting the most value from AI right now are the ones using it to improve efficiency while still sounding human, clear, and recognizable.
Here’s how to make AI work FOR your brand instead of watering it down:
First: Start with your own thoughts first.
Don’t ask AI to create your entire message from scratch. Start with your notes, ideas, or opinions first, then use AI to organize or refine them in a way that aligns with your work.
Second: Train AI on your voice.
Make sure you are aware of the ways in which you communicate (level of formality, terms you favor, etc.) and give AI direction: How casual or professional are you? What phrases do you naturally use? What tone fits your audience? What would you NEVER say? Without guidance, AI defaults to generic internet language.
Third: Set those boundaries.
Once AI has a sense of how you communicate, make sure your prompts are prefaced with boundaries that avoid that AI blah blah. Give them direction first and then instruction. Be as specific as possible or it will fill in the blanks with junk. For example: grounded, experienced, capable; pragmatic and supportive without being gushy; confident without being inflated; professional without being stiff; and occasionally, celebratory with a YAY YOU! thrown in regularly.
Fourth: Use AI for brainstorming.
AI is incredibly useful for content ideas, headline options, outlines, repurposing posts, and summarizing long information. That’s where it saves serious time.
Fifth: Keep the final edit human.
ALWAYS review and rewrite before posting. Add personality, simplify wording, and remove anything that doesn’t sound natural to you. Your stories, client experiences, lessons learned, and opinions are the parts AI cannot replicate well. That’s the content people actually remember.
Sixth: Let AI handle repetition.
AI is great for repetitive tasks like rewriting captions, formatting content, creating variations, and organizing information. Save your energy for strategy and creativity.
Seventh: Focus on connection, not just output.
Publishing more content doesn’t automatically build trust. The goal is communication, not volume.
The strongest marketing still sounds human at the end of the day.
AI should make your work easier, faster, and more organized, but it should never erase what makes your brand recognizable.
